Stop Thinking You Are Above Needing Outside Motivation
Stop Thinking You Are Above Needing Outside Motivation. Stop thinking you are better than motivation videos. Stop thinking you are better than personal development books. Stop thinking that you are so in control and so amazing that you don’t need the help of other people. It isn’t a weakness. It is a strength.
It is as if all of us “grown-ups” skipped a step in our development. We still harbour these childish views like “I am better than that” “I don’t need that” “That is for the weak”… Okay. Really? You are going to forever be that 16-year-old know-it-all? Better than everything? There is a difference between confidence in yourself and shutting yourself off from future growth. Explore. Listen. Learn. Use all of the tools that are available to you. If there are videos online that can pump you up… don’t ignore them. Don’t think watching them means you can’t motivate yourself. Don’t shut out every advantage you can get. If you do… one day you are going to look around and see everyone else who took the extra step here and there and now they are ahead of you. Now they are ahead of your group of friends. Now you are going to be bitter and negative about it and come up with all of the excuses in the world about why it isn’t like that for you. Is it the government’s fault? Your parents’? Your child? An injury? What is it? Are you still “cooler” than everyone else? Get your nose out of the sky and start to take advantage of the tools that you have available to your success.
I wrote the above many years ago and recently rediscovered it in my email. I figured I'd share it with everyone as I slowly start to add blog content to my website. The image is from my last flight to Vancouver. Comment below with your favourite motivation book or YouTube video. I'd love to check them out! Below is a video clip I remember listening to every morning for a long time. A favourite quote from the video is simply:
I did not neglect to do the easy things I could do every day for six years.
Neglect is a slippery slope. If you neglect something small every day then chances are you will eventually begin to neglect larger and larger things. What part of this video stands out to you the most?
Unfortunately the YouTube video has finally been removed but I believe in the quote I mentioned above so much that I'm leaving it there. I will link another motivational video I recall watching many times over the years.
I honestly don't read enough books but one that I've read multiple times over the years is "The Slight Edge". I was smart enough the first time I read it to highlight things that stood out to me.
